Snow and extreme cold lie ahead of the Arctic blast in southeastern Michigan

A hazardous weather forecast has been issued for Southeast Michigan as the area will experience scattered snow and cold temperatures this week, according to the National Weather Service’s White Lake office.

Scattered lake-effect snow showers are expected through Tuesday afternoon, with accumulations of a half to two inches possible in the Detroit metropolitan area, NWS meteorologist Alex Manion said.

According to the NWS, most of the snowfall is expected between 5 a.m. and noon on Tuesday. Localized accumulations of 1 to 3 inches are forecast along and between the I-69 and I-94 corridors.

The NWS warns of wind chill values ​​between -5 and 5 degrees on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday morning. Residents are advised to limit time outdoors and dress in layers to avoid frostbite and hypothermia.
