Driving in slippery conditions

Drivers should continue to use caution on the roads as ice and snow still remains from Monday’s winter storm. The cold temperatures mean that the wet roads become slippery.

According to WJZ’s First Alert Team, temperatures will continue to be below freezing this week and a storm system could bring more snow this weekend.

Snowplows have been working all week to ensure major roads are clear and salted. Maryland residents received 4 to 12 inches of snow through Tuesday morning, according to the National Weather Service.

Maryland officials said motorists should exercise caution and watch for hazards when traveling.

  • On roads that may be slippery, drive slowly and be aware of black ice.
  • Be careful around snowplow drivers.
  • If you are stuck, stay in the vehicle until it is safe.
  • Be wary of carbon monoxide poisoning by making sure your exhaust is clear of snow.
  • Travel with a safety kit that includes a blanket, water, warm clothing, food, jumper cables, and cat litter or salt for traction.
