Christine Kekkonen will be sentenced for murder on March 28th

A woman has been found guilty of murder after stabbing her husband of 15 years in the neck.

Henri Kekkonen died on May 9 after being attacked by Christine Kekkonen at the pair’s shared property on Dunford Terrace in Baltonsborough, Somerset.

The court heard that Kekkonen texted her mother immediately after the incident, begging her to send the police as she had “done something terrible”.

The 36-year-old claimed she had not intended to kill Henri, but a jury at Bristol Crown Court found her guilty of murder on Friday. She will be sentenced on March 28.

Henri Kekkonen was described by his parents as a “kind, warm-hearted and special” son

Avon and Somerset Police say Henri was attacked sometime between 4pm BST and 4:20pm BST.

At 4:21pm BST, Kekkonen sent a text message to her mother saying: “Mom, please call the police here now. Please. I did something terrible.”

Her father then called an ambulance and the police were informed.

The emergency services were at their home within 15 minutes, but despite their efforts, Henri died at the scene.

Heavy blood stains were found on the couple’s bed in their bungalow, following which police recovered a knife from the floor on the left side of the bed.

Kekkonen was arrested on suspicion of murder and later charged by detectives from Avon and Somerset Police’s Major Crime Investigation Team.

“Cruelly taken”

Lead investigating officer Det Supt Lorett Spierenburg said: “Henri was a loving husband who, at the age of 41, had so much more to live for. These opportunities were cruelly taken away from him.”

“Christine Kekkonen is clearly a vulnerable woman, but her actions that afternoon shortened the life of a man who was completely in love with her.

“I am pleased for Henri’s family that the woman responsible for his death has been convicted of his murder today and my thoughts are with them.”

Kekkonen will be sentenced on March 28.
