“Sonic The Hedgehog 3” is already streaming, “Sonic 4” has a release date

We’ve entered a strange new era in which films, even hugely successful ones, are positive Run to begin streaming for viewers at home. The latest example is Sonic the Hedgehog 3, which was released just a month ago on December 20th, but now you can already watch it at home.

Just this week it was announced that Sonic 3 has now grossed more money than the previous two Sonic films at $422 million worldwide, but now the plan is apparently to try to make more money from expensive purchases/rentals to get out home.

While you can watch Sonic the Hedgehog 3 at home now, it’s not yet possible to get it “for free” on any existing streaming service. The pattern is usually: expensive rent/purchase, cheaper rent, add “free” streaming service. We are currently in the first phase. Here’s where to stream it and at what price:

So you won’t save any money by switching between subscription services, and you might as well choose the provider you use most often. But if you want to wait for it to be added to a specific streaming service? This will be Paramount Plus since Paramount is the distributor and they need it for their (I would argue increasingly relevant) service. There’s no official date yet, but the way these things usually go in terms of the timing of past blockbusters, it could arrive at Paramount in late February.

This isn’t the only Sonic news of the week. With the third film, Sonic the Hedgehog 4 increases its box office and there is an obvious teaser scene after the film. Sonic the Hedgehog 4 is confirmed to be released. Not only is it coming, it already has a release date announced by Paramount.

That would be March 19, 2027, just over two years from now. Nothing is confirmed about the cast yet, but considering how much crossover there is between the films so far, it’s safe to assume that Ben Schwartz, Idris Elba, Keanu Reeves, James Marsden, Jim Carrey, Colleen O’Shaughnessey and others will play the main roles. And Jeff Fowler will probably direct it, considering he did a great job on the first three. The series has now grossed over $1 billion worldwide and is at the forefront of the idea of breaking the “bad video game adaptation” curse, most recently brought about by the $1 billion film “The Super Mario Bros.” brought in $3 billion.

So you can stream Sonic 3 now for $20, but you can also wait another month or so until it’s released by Paramount. Then, two years later, you look at Sonic 4.
