South Carolina players and coaches are committed to the College Football Playoff

After a loss to Alabama, the South Carolina Gamecocks were 3-3 and faced a crossroads. Since that loss, the Gamecocks have won six straight games and have a chance to reach the College Football Playoff.

South Carolina head coach Shane Beamer was aware of the opportunity he had in front of the media and took the time to make his team’s case for being in the 12-team field on Selection Sunday.

“I believe we deserve a spot in the 12-team playoffs,” Coach Beamer said. “The (playoff) committee has a really tough job. You have to choose the twelve best teams. We suffered three defeats, I understand that. But it’s hard for me to sit there and say we’re not one of the 12 best teams in the country.”

South Carolina is 9-3 this year. They have rattled off six straight wins, including four top-25 wins, and have been one of the hottest teams in the country during that time. In the battle for the final few spots, the Gamecocks’ head coach believes the strength of their schedule should play a role.

“If you look at the strength of our schedule. If you look at our away wins. We experience hostile environments every week. Our only away defeat is a two-point defeat. I think today is our fourth top-25 win,” Coach Beamer said.

According to ESPN’s FPI, the Gamecocks have the 15th-best depth in the country. Their losses to LSU, Alabama and Ole Miss are the reason the Gamecocks are left out. But as things stand, Coach Beamer doesn’t think anyone would be excited to see South Carolina in the dance.

“If the committee’s job is to select the top 12 teams, tell me to everyone across the country on Selection Sunday if South Carolina is in that group. I don’t know a team that would be happy about having to play against this team.” “The way we’re playing right now is how I judge it,” says coach Beamer about his team’s playoff chances.

It wasn’t just Coach Beamer who brought the matter forward. The Gamecocks players took the microphone and made it clear that they are one of the top 12 teams in the sport and have a chance to compete for a national title.

“I think we’re the hottest team in the country right now,” South Carolina DB Nick Emmanwori said. “I hope the committee does the right thing and puts us there.”

When talking about the pride of being in the conference and being in the playoffs, star tailback Rocket Sanders had this to say.

“We have so much talent on this team. We want it,” South Carolina RB Rocket Sanders appealed to the college football playoff committee.

South Carolina hasn’t secured a spot in the conference championship, so they’ll have to wait another week to find out their fate. The College Football Playoff Committee will release its rankings for the 12-team playoff field on Selection Sunday following the conference championship games on Saturday.
