Spencer Dinwiddie drops an eye-opening Mavericks truth bomb

DALLAS – The Dallas Mavericks have an 11-8 record this season. Spencer Dinwiddie has played a big role in recent appearances with Luka Doncic and Klay Thompson sidelined due to injuries. Speaking to reporters after practice on Friday, Dinwiddie praised the organization and addressed his role on the team.

“One of the greatest achievements of this organization is its phenomenal communications work,” said Dinwiddie. “I’m approaching it from the standpoint of, ‘Hey, this is a championship-caliber team.’ What can I do night after night to help us win? That doesn’t always mean we score big goals on nights.”

Spencer Dinwiddie is doing everything he can to help the Mavericks

The 31-year-old Dinwiddie is averaging 6.6 points per game on 39.3 percent field goal and 34.5 percent three-point shooting. He also records 2.6 assists and 1.6 rebounds per appearance while averaging 19.5 minutes per game. Due to the Mavericks’ injuries, Dinwiddie has seen increased playing time in recent games.

He is ready to help the team in any role required.

“I think the staff and the team are playing what is asked of me,” explained Dinwiddie. “Some nights they say, for example, let’s say we’re playing jazz, they say, ‘Hey, you gotta guard (Lauri) Markkanen.’ Okay, I know it’s one of those nights. Really get caught up in it and try not to give it any breathing room. It could also mean I would end up in foul trouble so I might have fewer minutes, but I have to play those minutes in a certain style.

“It’s just a matter of reading the feedback from the coaches and then the game itself… lineups, opponents and all that other stuff is going to, you know, kind of change who I am every night.”

Dinwiddie’s numbers may not jump off the page. However, one of Dallas’ main goals in the offseason was to add depth. Dinwiddie is ready to help the Mavs in any way he can. His veteran skills will only help the cause as the 2024-25 NBA season progresses.
