Stalker Caitlin Clark has been charged after sending sexually violent messages

Marion County prosecutors have charged Texas native Michael Thomas Lewis with stalking after he sent threats and sexually violent messages to Fever star Caitlin Clark

Lewis, 55, was traveling from Texas to Indianapolis and was arrested Sunday at a hotel in the 100 block of North Market Street, WISHTV.com reported.

Indianapolis police met with Lewis on Wednesday to discuss the news, and he said his relationship with Clark was “imaginary.”

After the police visit, messages continued to be sent to Clark from Lewis’ IP address.

“I drove around your house three times a day,” Lewis wrote to Clark, according to court documents. “But don’t call the law yet.”

Another message read: “I’m getting tickets. I sit behind the bench.”

According to IndyStar, an affidavit included 15 messages from Lewis’ X account sent to Clark from Dec. 16 through mid-January.

Clark told police that she feared for her safety and that she had changed her public demeanor and movements because of the news.

Prosecutors said investigators were able to determine, based on messages coming from his IP address, that Lewis was staying at a hotel in downtown Indianapolis – about a mile from the Fever’s home stadium.

Prosecutors filed an order banning Lewis from Hinkle Fieldhouse and Gainbridge Fieldhouse, home of the fever.

Marion County Prosecutor Ryan Mears praised Clark and Pacers Sports & Entertainment in a news release following the arrest.

“No matter how prominent you are, this case shows that online harassment can quickly escalate into actual threats of physical violence,” Mears said. “It takes a lot of courage for women to come forward in such cases, which is why many don’t do it. In doing so, the victim sets an example for all women who deserve to live and work in India without the threat of sexual violence.

“We commend Pacers Sports & Entertainment and the Marion County Sheriff’s Office for the quick and serious action that resulted in this weekend’s arrest.”

Lewis has a court date set for Tuesday.

Clark, who is not playing in the new Unrivaled League in Miami, is spending the WNBA offseason in Indiana.

The 2024 WNBA Rookie of the Year has numerous men’s basketball games at Butler to support her boyfriend Connor McCaffery, who is an assistant coach with the Bulldogs after previously serving as an assistant with the Pacers last season.
