My analysis

The Dallas Stars and Los Angeles Kings are two of the best defensive teams in the league. Both clubs have posted 9-12-3 and 9-13-3 O/U records against the Under this season while allowing the fourth and fifth fewest goals per game, respectively.

The Under has scored in eight of the last ten meetings between these teams since January 2020.

The 5-on-5 numbers for Dallas and Los Angeles also highlight the commitment to strong team defense.

I also estimate Dallas’ fifth-place penalty percentage at 82.6, while Los Angeles is likely to show a statistical correction above its 16th-place 80% mark after posting a second-place PK percentage of 82.6 last year 84.6% had been recorded.

Of course, the Stars will also have No. 1 Jake Oettinger back between the pipes. With a save percentage of .915 and a GAA of 2.38, he was in top form all season, ranking seventh and fifth, respectively, among goaltenders with at least ten appearances.

Finally, the Kings have a home record of 8-2-1 but are allowing just 2.0 goals per game, and the Stars’ offense drops from 3.67 goals per game at home to 3.08 on the highway.
