Subaru of Mandan is giving away free car

MANDAN, N.D. (KFYR) – The plunging temperatures can be challenging for people who do not own a vehicle and primarily walk to go about their daily lives. A Subaru of Mandan raffle made one family’s search for transportation much easier.

Tylena Lewis and her family were the lucky winners of the Subaru of Mandan car raffle.

She and her four children have lived in North Dakota since 2022. Since they didn’t own a vehicle, if they needed to get somewhere they would walk, pay for an Uber, or pay for someone’s gas in exchange for a ride.

“I will now be able to go back and forth to work. I will now be able to take all of my children to their appointments,” Lewis said. “It used to be a fight, but not anymore.”

Lewis had reshared a post on the dealer’s Facebook page asking for nominations for a car raffle.

“We know there are many people in need in the community and we just wanted to give a little thanks on Thanksgiving and brighten someone’s day and holiday,” said Terry Weszner, general manager of Subaru of Mandan.

Lewis doesn’t know exactly who or how many people nominated her, but she does know that one of them was her son. She and her family have never been outside the Bismarck-Mandan area, which she wants to change with her new 2018 Honda CRV with brand new tires.

“I kind of want to travel and go with them to Fargo to Minot, to all the places that, you know, they want to go to,” Lewis said.

She said she didn’t expect to win, but it was a blessing that she did. She said the first thing she will do is take photos of her baby in the car.
