Subaru Tops Consumer Reports 2025 Auto Rankings Amid High Prices, Interest Rates :: WRAL.com

With car prices at or near record levels and interest rates still high, buying a car is a high-risk financial decision.

That’s why Consumer Reports compiles testimonials for every car we test to help you make the right choice that will last for years.

The new rankings, released Thursday, are the result of more than 50 tests conducted by Consumer Reports engineers and automotive experts.

CR compares over 250 models for on-road performance, comfort, reliability, owner satisfaction and safety. – And tests don’t end in the office

“We live with these vehicles every day,” Alex Knizek told Consumer Reports. “We take them home, we drive them on public roads, we put our families in them, we go to the grocery store and we use all that data, combined with our survey information, to figure out who makes the best cars.”

Subaru takes the top spot among the 32 brands in the 2025 Consumer Reports.

“When they design or redesign a new model, they tend to adopt last year’s models.”

And this approach tends to lend itself to good reliability because the problems are eliminated over time, so to speak. “In addition, their vehicles perform well in our tests,” said Alex Knizek.

Rounding out the top five were BMW, Lexus, Porsche and Honda.

“Part of buying, testing and living with these vehicles is learning not only what’s good about the top-scoring vehicles, but also what might be annoying or not so good,” Knizek said.

Dodge, GMC, Land Rover, Rivian and Jeep – ended up at the bottom of the rankings this year. According to CR, these rankings should help guide your purchasing decision, but they shouldn’t be the only factor you consider.

“Even top brands can have vehicles that don’t perform as well. “That’s why it’s really important that you do your research and check the reviews of the vehicles you’re specifically interested in,” Knizek said.

Consumer Reports says the best needed Car brands include Lexus, Toyota and Mazda.
