The case was characterized by days of deliberations and intense arguments in the courtroom. It centered on allegations of escalating domestic disputes that led to Torres’ death.

In October, Boone was convicted of second-degree murder after investigators said she put Torres in a suitcase and left him to die.

During the trial, prosecutors argued the act was premeditated, citing cell phone video from Boone’s phone that showed Torres in the suitcase, begging to be released while laughing and taunting him.

The defense countered by claiming battered spouse syndrome. On the 10th day of the trial in Orange County, the jury ultimately rejected the defense and convicted Boone of second-degree murder.

In November, Boone filed a motion seeking a new trial. She alleged that she was denied a court-appointed attorney.
