Superman & Lois series finale with long-awaited debut of Krypto

It’s been a big year for crypto, the superdog. After James Gunn confirmed that (Super)man’s best friend would appear in the DC Universe film Supermanthe fan-favorite dog, made a surprise appearance in Monday night’s series finale Superman & Lois.



In the series finale “It Went By So Fast” after the death of his wife Lois, Clark Kent adopts a golden retriever and names him Kryptoa reference to the superhero dog of the same name with superpowers from the comics. Crypto was introduced almost 70 years ago

Crypto was developed by Otto Binder and Curt Swan and first appeared in the 1955s Adventure Comics #210. Krypto, typically depicted as a White German Shepherd, was Kal-El’s pet on Krypton. As for how the character ended up on Earth, Jor-El used him as a test subject for the prototype rocket that would eventually send Kal-El to Earth. However, his rocket was blown off course, delaying Krypto’s arrival on Earth until Kal-El had already arrived and was adopted by the Kents. Since Krypto is also a Kryptonian, he has the same superpowers as Superman. However, as Helbing mentioned, crypto is in Superman & Lois was born on Earth and has no Kryptonian genes.
