Sutherland Subdivision roads are set for a long-awaited makeover

GILLETTE, Wyo. – Sutherland subdivision residents could expect smoother roads in the future as the city council considers a proposal to revitalize aging roads. Many of the streets have not received significant improvements since the mid-1990s, resulting in noticeable deterioration in some areas, city documents say.

The proposed project seeks to mill and overlay select residential streets and collectors within the subdivision. The top layer of asphalt is removed and replaced with a fresh, smooth surface. To ensure the project addresses areas of greatest need, the City Council on Tuesday approved a professional services contract with WWC Engineering for design and bidding services.

The agreement is valued at $75,000 and comes from the optional 1% sales tax fund. This project is allocated $100,000 in the FY25 budget, ensuring it is fully funded, according to city records.

The project schedule calls for the development of the tender documents throughout the winter and into spring/early summer 2025, with the tender expected in late summer/early autumn 2025.
