SWISS is expanding its long-haul fleet with five more Airbus A350-900 aircraft

Swiss International Air Lines (SWISS) will further expand its long-haul fleet with five new Airbus A350-900 aircraft. The new additions will bring the total order to ten of the new widebody aircraft.

This strategic investment will further transform the airline’s long-haul capabilities, with a focus on sustainability, passenger comfort and operational efficiency.

A350-900 delivery planning

The fleet expansion is a major commitment by the Lufthansa Group to improve the operational performance of SWISS.

Delivery of the new aircraft will take place gradually between summer 2025 and the end of 2031. Each aircraft features the innovative “SWISS Senses” cabin equipment, which promises to revolutionize the passenger experience.

SWISS CEO Jens Fehlinger highlighted the importance of this investment, stating: “These new Airbus A350s are critical to meeting our customers’ evolving expectations.” We’re not just updating our fleet; We are creating a new benchmark for comfort and sustainability on long-haul travel.”

Technology & “SWISS Senses” cabin

The Airbus A350-900 is considered the pinnacle of modern aviation technology. Airlines around the world value the Airbus A350-900 for its exceptional fuel efficiency and significantly reduced CO2 emissions. Particularly impressive are the aircraft’s state-of-the-art engines, which reduce noise pollution by more than 50% compared to previous generation aircraft.

Each new aircraft will feature the “SWISS Senses” cabin interior, a comprehensive approach to passenger comfort that redefines the long-haul travel experience. This innovative design promises outstanding comfort across all travel classes and integrates the latest cabin technologies and passenger-centric features.

Strategic fleet modernization

The gradual introduction of these aircraft will allow SWISS to systematically improve its long-range capabilities. Airbus will deliver the first A350-900 in summer 2025, with additional aircraft joining the fleet at carefully planned intervals until the end of 2031.

The airline is currently in the process of identifying the specific routes that will benefit from these new aircraft. SWISS planners carefully select the most suitable routes to maximize the A350-900’s expanded capabilities.

Summary

This investment underlines SWISS’s broader commitment to maintaining a competitive advantage in the international long-haul market. The increased long-haul acquisition also supports the strategic fleet development of the Lufthansa Group.

The Airbus A350-900 perfectly embodies modern aviation’s dual focus on technological progress and environmental responsibility.

From December 4, 2024, SWISS, together with the sister airlines of the Lufthansa Group, will expand their “Green Fares” to all long-haul flights.

The Green Fare product includes a price component to compensate for the CO2 emissions caused by the customer’s air travel. The new long-haul green fares complement SWISS’s existing offering, which is intended to ensure more sustainable air travel.

With its superior fuel efficiency, reduced emissions and advanced cabin design, the new A350 aircraft symbolize the future of sustainable, comfortable long-haul travel.
