SZA manager Terrence ‘Punch’ Henderson parts ways with TDE, Singer

SZA is no longer managed by Top Dawg Entertainment President Terrence “Punch” Henderson. In a series of Instagram comments, the singer and songwriter revealed that their often contentious manager-client relationship came to an end after Henderson “abruptly” resigned from his managerial duties.

“Nothing to celebrate. End of an era,” SZA commented on a post from a fan account that shared news of the breakup. “I wish him all the best. Whatever his decisions may be.” Fans in the comments, who have developed their own complex understandings of Punch in recent years, appeared confused by the news. They wondered what it would mean for the singer in the future and who initiated the separation. In a separate comment, SZA shared, “Let’s be clear, I love punches!” NO ONE should attack him or be cruel on my behalf. Sometimes people grow apart and that’s okay.”

Now the musician is doing her best to achieve the expanded release Lanathe already expanded edition of SOSback on the right track. Shortly after the 15-track addition arrived on December 20, SZA shared a screenshot of a text exchange with Punch in which she pushed for three more songs to be added to the release. “I think we should definitely let this rest for at least a week,” he replied. “Give it to them for New Year or Christmas.” SZA captioned the post: “King is so nice and Finna let me clear all this up.

Christmas is over and 2025 is upon us, but SZA is currently in the process of reshaping her path forward. “These were great tracks and I’ve previously talked about releasing them together,” she shared on Instagram. “Obviously he resigned abruptly, so it was a little difficult to sort out the absence. Please give me a second…they’re loading.”

The arrival of Lana itself was delayed by a few hours, for which Punch took responsibility without providing specific details about the cause of the delay. Last year he said diversity that he doesn’t mind being in the firing line for SZA if it means she can focus on music. “I understand that people need a sinner, a villain,” he said. “That’s why I prefer to be myself rather than the artist. I don’t want her to focus on that while she’s making these records. I’ll take that.”

Punch wasn’t SZA’s sole manager – she has at least two others – but as TDE president, he inherently played a larger role in her release schedule. He signed her as the label’s first artist in 2013 and worked with her in the years that followed CTRL and SOS.

In 2022, Punch spoke to vulture about SZA’s relationship with TDE as a label. “I won’t say there was never any argument. There are always arguments, especially when it comes to creativity,” he said. “Differences of opinion do happen, but that doesn’t mean someone is unhappy or anything. It could have been a conversation at the moment. Then there is a lot of speculation. I understand it. We have to remember that context is important and you never get the whole story from tweets.”
