Takfiri terrorists will achieve nothing in the face of resistance forces: Araghchi

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi says foreign-backed Takfiri terrorist groups, which have recently stepped up their attacks, are doomed to fail in the face of resistance forces defending the region.

Araghchi made the remarks during a ceremony on Sunday, days after terror groups led by the Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) launched their biggest attack in Syria in years, seizing control of parts of the country’s second-largest city, Aleppo. and advanced south toward the city of Hama.

The Syrian army later announced that it had foiled the large-scale terrorist attacks through a preemptive strike.

According to Araghchi, new conspiracies are emerging every day in West Asia, and today it is the presence of Takfiri terrorist groups that are moving in the same direction as the US and Israel.

“These groups and their supporters should know that they will achieve nothing in the face of resistance forces and those fighting for the honor and dignity of their country and the region,” Araghchi added.

“This fact has been proven in recent years and their renewed efforts will not lead to anything. We will see the defeat of these groups in the region.”

Syria has been gripped by foreign-backed militancy since March 2011, with Western countries and their regional allies supporting terror groups wreaking havoc in the Arab country.

The new terrorist attack led the Syrian army to target the militants’ positions. President Basher al-Assad vowed to defend the country’s stability and territorial integrity.

In a statement on Saturday, the Syrian Defense Ministry said forces were stationed in the northern and eastern outskirts of the city and assured: “Towns near Hama have not been entered.”

HTS is known to have allied with the Israeli regime to target Syria’s comprehensive counterterrorism effort.

Araghchi is expected to convey Iran’s message of support for Syria

The top Syrian diplomat also told reporters on Sunday that he would travel to Damascus later in the day to deliver the Islamic Republic’s message to the Syrian government.

“We firmly support the Syrian army and government,” he stressed, noting that the Syrian armed forces will once again defeat terrorist groups as in the past.

He said Tehran makes no distinction between Israel and Takfiri terrorists and believes the enemy is trying to destabilize the region after the Zionist regime failed in its two-front aggression against the Gaza Strip and Lebanon.
