Tampa wife one of many Cubans deported from Florida

Heidy Sanchez Tejeda’s husband, a US citizen born in Cuban, is now desperately trying to bring her back to Tampa.

Tampa, Fla. – A man in Tampa desperately tries to bring his wife back to the USA after she and dozens of other Cubans have been deported from Florida this week.

Carlos Yunier Valle says his wife, Heidy Sanchez Tejeda, was in the process of getting a green card, but when she decided on Tuesday an ice check for ice cream, you arrested her. He fears that he and her 16 -month -old daughter will not be united with her again soon.

“The last time I talked to her was (Friday) tomorrow and then (Friday) afternoon with her and she is in Cuba,” he said by a translator.

Valle came from Cuba almost 20 years ago after his family won a lottery. He says he applied for citizenship as soon as he came into question and had become a US citizen about 15 years ago.

“We escaped misery and hunger and all the problems that are there,” he said. “It was much worse for Heidy because she suffered a lot more.”

When living conditions in Cuba continued to deteriorate in recent years, Tejeda fled to Mexico in 2020 and arrived at the border between the USA and Mexico, in the hope of gaining admission and finally applying for the law on Cuban Federal Cuban Adjustment.

She waited for months in Mexico while her entry application was checked. First she expected to be sent back to Cuba, but she was finally let in.

“It seems that Cuba and the United States had no relationship, so they did not take a prisoner (back to Cuba),” he said. “So they decide to let them go to the USA”

But she came here under a form I-220 “supervision of the supervision, which means that she could be deported at any time. She met Valle in Tampa in 2021, she married 2023 and had a baby, Kaailyn. She also received a work permit, is currently a licensed certification assistant and works as a domestic aide, Coenide Careper.

In 2023 she also applied for a more permanent status because she was now married to a citizen. Immigration law allows fiancee and spouses from citizens special ways to permanent, rightful status. The I-220 status meant annual check-in with ice cream, but on Monday she got a call, where he will come to the Tampa office the next day.

“Many people even told me that I shouldn’t go to the appointment because they would let them be detained,” says Valle. “But because we want to do things right as we should, we went.”

It was taken into custody. On Thursday she was sent back to Havana with other Cubans with the same status.

“I agree that they deport people who are criminals, but why are they aiming at innocent people?” he said. “Why are you aiming at family members who only work hard?”

The Miami Herald reported that the local law enforcement authorities with ICE at the “Operation Tidal Wave” worked with the aim of deporting 800 immigrants.

This year, the Trump administration tried to remove a temporary protection status for immigrants from dangerous countries such as Cuba and Venezuela, but a federal judge remained a termination of probation workers that would have suspended more Cubans of deportation.

10 Tampa Bay was able to speak to an ICE spokesman in Tampa in the late afternoon. Although they could not confirm where Tejeda is currently, they have a team that checked the records and waiting for the release of the DC office before they can publish further information.
