Taste Buddies teaches families to prepare healthy holiday meals

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – As the holidays approach, so do the many desserts that come with this time of year.

GRPS has partnered with Corewell Health to host the Taste Buddies cooking class so families can learn about healthy eating habits and cooking tips around the holidays.

Taste Buddies started on Zoom during the coronavirus crisis, when families were stuck in their homes. Now they have expanded their offerings to include in-person cooking classes.

Jennifer Williams, director of family and community engagement at GRPS, said: “The aim is to enrich the family discussion. This is a time when everyone is seen and everyone has a chance to talk about their day and relax.”

Bettina Jones, nutritionist at Corewell Health, says Taste Buddies helps kids learn creative ways to incorporate social and emotional learning into their cooking.

Jones also says it’s important for families to make small, sustainable changes when setting new goals for their eating habits.

“If they get the opportunity to prepare the food themselves, I think they will feel like they can do that at home,” Jones said.

If you would like to attend one of these cooking classes, upcoming Taste Buddies events will be posted here.
