“Ted Lasso’s Brett Goldstein says Apple TV+ comedy was inspired by ‘The Wizard of Oz.’

Brett Goldstein confirms a fan theory that says so The Wizard of Oz is heavily inspired Ted Lasso.

With Evil As the box office tanks, the theory has resurfaced that the Apple TV+ comedy is a modern retelling of L. Frank Baum’s classic.

“Oh yes, there are lots of them The Wizard of Oz In Ted Lassosaid Goldstein, author and star of the show Weekly entertainment. “The pinball machine is the one where Ted always has to go home. “There’s no place like home.” And then there’s no place like Richmond FC. Yes, that’s all Wizard of Oz.”

Goldstein also revealed who each character was modeled after, saying that his character was Roy Kent the Tin Man, Jason Sudeikis’ Ted Dorothy, Hannah Waddingham’s Rebecca the Lion and Phil Dunster’s Jamie the Scarecrow.

“I’m sure this will cause a lot of trouble,” he added.

Ted Lasso premiered in 2020 and quickly became a critically acclaimed favorite. The first season went down in Emmy history as the most nominated first-year comedy and ultimately won seven awards, including Outstanding Comedy Series.

The show was believed to have ended after three seasons on Apple TV+, but a fourth season could still be in the works. Deadline exclusively reported in August this year that Apple and Warner Bros. TV had picked up the options of several key British cast members.

In an interview with Bill Lawrence, the co-creator hinted that Sudeikis would have to make a decision about the fourth season.

“Jason Sudeikis is the voice, the heart and the driving force behind the show, not only professionally but also on a personal level. He’s the guy whose life is turned upside down and who would make the biggest sacrifices,” he said. “The only sure bet in Hollywood is that no one involved with Ted Lasso will ever talk about it until Jason makes his decision about who he wants to talk to and what he wants to tell.”
