Real Madrid had a mixed start to December, with a win over Girona overshadowed by a loss to Athletic Club.

The reigning European champions face an even more daunting task tonight when they take on Atalanta in what could be a must-win game Los Blancos.

The month will only get more difficult for Real Madrid with games against the likes of Rayo Vallecano and Sevilla coming up.

The schedule begins on January 3rd with a postponed La Liga game against Valencia. Just three days later, they will open their Copa del Rey season with a visit to Deportiva Minera.

The Spanish Super Cup semi-final against Mallorca is scheduled for January 9th in Saudi Arabia, with the final possibly taking place on the 12th.

After returning from Saudi Arabia, Real Madrid will go straight into the Copa del Rey round of 16, scheduled for the week of January 14th.

The La Liga duel against Las Palmas is scheduled for January 19th, followed by the crucial Champions League group phase game against Salzburg on January 22nd.

The month of January ends with games against Valladolid and finally Brest, another must-win game Los Blancos if they want to qualify for the next round of the Champions League.
