Tesla Cybertruck seized after being illegally driven on Greater Manchester roads | British News

A Tesla Cybertruck has been seized after being driven illegally in Greater Manchester.

Greater Manchester Police (GMP) officers stopped a UK permanent resident in Whitefield, Bury, after they were spotted driving the unique-looking electric vehicle.

The Cybertruck is illegal to drive in the UK and it was discovered that it was also registered and insured abroad.

Bury Police said: “The driver was a permanent resident of the UK but the vehicle was registered and insured abroad, which is prohibited in the UK.”

“The Tesla Cybertruck is not road legal in the UK and does not have a certificate of compliance.

“Although this may seem trivial to some, there are legitimate concerns about the safety of other road users or pedestrians if they were involved in a collision with a Cybertruck.

“The vehicle was subsequently impounded under S165 of the Highway Code and the driver came forward.”

It is understood the vehicle was referred to Operation Wolverine, which was launched in 2007 to target uninsured drivers.

The driver must now prove ownership and the correct insurance before release.

But even if they get it back, they still won’t be able to drive it on British roads.

At 5.6m, the Cybertruck is longer than a standard Range Rover, which is just over 5m long.

It was released by Tesla in 2023 after being first shown as a prototype in 2019.

Towards the end of last year, Tesla has recalled almost 700,000 Cybertrucks in the USA due to a problem with the tire pressure monitoring system
