Texas head coach Steven Sarkisian says Georgia could use an “extra day of rest.”

Georgia football just played the longest game in all of college football this season (and the second longest in the history of the sport) after beating Georgia Tech in eight overtimes on Friday night.

This game was very stressful even for Georgia fans, but can you imagine how exhausted the team must be after this game? This was probably the most demanding game not only physically but also mentally as Georgia had to fight back from a big deficit in the first half. So it’s really nice that this game took place on Friday so UGA can have an extra day of rest before facing Texas in the SEC Championship Game.

Speaking of Texas, Longhorns head coach Steve Sarkisian mentioned in a recent press conference that he stayed up to watch Georgia’s game against Tech, and he even mentioned that the Bulldogs could use that extra rest as well.

“I don’t know it. I don’t think about it too much,” Sarkisian said, via 247sports.com. “I’m just focused on what we need to do to prepare. It’s a normal working week for us. I’m sure they need the extra day. That was a long game. I stayed awake and watched it. That was a marathon. That was me.” I’m exhausted myself looking at it, so… In the end, it’s a normal work week for us. I don’t think too much about whether there is an extra day or not.

Although it appears that Sarkisian took a shot at Georgia, it is more than likely that he did not. What he said is something everyone else is already thinking themselves, that Georgia needs a lot of time to rest and recover.

That extra day after Georgia Tech arrives will be helpful, but even that isn’t enough given all the injuries Georgia is dealing with right now.

Georgia will have plenty of time off after the SEC Championship Game, regardless of whether it wins or loses. If they lose, they will have about two weeks until they can play their first-round game in the CFP. However, a win would give them a bye and a break until New Year’s Eve or New Year’s Day, when the CFP quarterfinals will be played. That makes a big difference in the time Georgia gets to rest and heal.

Hopefully Kirby Smart and Georgia can win this weekend so they can get the rest Sarkisian believes Georgia desperately needs.
