The Alabama basketball guard is eliminated against Oregon

Alabama basketball player Latrell Wrightsell Jr. left the court in the No. 9 Crimson Tide’s game against Oregon on Saturday early in the second half of the Players Era Festival championship.

After attempting a 3-pointer with 18:55 left, the returning Final Four starter was uninjured during the play, but ended up on the court screaming in pain and an apparent lower leg injury.

Wrightsell, who battled injuries throughout UA’s 2023-24 season, is shooting 49% and averaging 11.7 points per game on the year. His averages also include 1.9 rebounds and 2.1 assists.

Coach Nate Oats said during postgame availability that there was concern about Wrightsell’s Achilles.

“They’ll get him checked out as soon as we get back,” Oats said, noting that “obviously it won’t be good” if UA finds out the worst.

Wrightsell suffered an offseason lower leg injury that forced him to the bench until Oats released him for a minute suspension in the season opener against UNC-Asheville.

Last season, Wrightsell missed two weeks of action after suffering a head injury in a win against Texas A&M, although he ultimately returned to the starting lineup before a season-ending Final Four loss to UConn.
