The Archway plans to use the funds from Give Where You Live to purchase new technology

KEARNEY, Neb. (KSNB) – The Archway in Kearney is preparing to purchase some new projectors with funding from Give Where You Live.

The current projector was used in the museum’s Buffalo Stampede and Pony Express exhibits when it opened in 2000 and is now obsolete.

General Manager Stacy Schwartz said the changes were necessary because the projectors were starting to show signs of wear.

“They’ve started to lose their vibrancy and their color, and with this museum it’s an immersive experience. You feel like you’re part of history,” Schwartz said. “By updating our technology, we can keep history alive and bring 180 years of experience.”

She also said visitors should immediately notice a big difference once the projectors are in place.

“You will feel as if buffalo are charging towards you, and they will be so bright and alive that they will come straight towards you, just like our pony express where the riders swap horses.” Schwartz said. “It’s just another thing to bring history to life. The great thing about The Archway is that we present the story visually, aurally and worth reading.”

Schwartz also said the changes to the Archway are important because the attraction is a big draw for Kearney and central Nebraska.

“The archway is a big part of this community and its history,” Schwartz said. “The beauty of The Archway is that it tells a story about western migration and educates people about the struggles and challenges they have had to overcome here.”

You can donate to The Archway through the Give Where you Live website or through The Archway website.

The museum is also hosting an event on Thursday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. where you can enjoy cider and cookies and learn how your donation helps support The Archway.
