The Braves’ rival is rumored to have their eye on one of Atlanta’s top targets

The team that ended the Braves’ sixth straight title streak last season is looking to give it its all this offseason. Atlanta’s biggest rival is rumored to have plenty of motivation to shake up its already crowded roster in hopes of building a championship contender.

The Philadelphia Phillies have been linked to a ton of free agent talent this winter and have even reportedly entered the Juan Soto sweepstakes. Unfortunately, the Phillies are now making a splash about one of the top players the Braves have been linked to this offseason.

Phillies may look to bolster their infield with the addition of Willy Adames

In his article published yesterday, USA Today’s Bob Nightengale went over a lot of different rumors that he has come across over the past few days. One point he highlighted was the Phillies’ desire to expand their roster, mentioning the possibility of adding free agent Willy Adames.

Philadelphia is rumored to be looking to acquire third baseman Alec Bohm (who has yet to reach home plate) after the former No. 3 overall pick in 2024 struggled for most of the second half. Earlier this offseason, the Phillies were linked to third baseman Alex Bregman, who is a free agent at age 30.

However, Bregman is reportedly seeking a mega deal 200 million dollars Reach. That could motivate the Phillies to move on to a cheaper Adames and move him to the third base role while Trea Turner still holds the shortstop spot.

This would obviously be a huge blow, as it would not only make the Braves’ biggest rival a much better team, but it would also take away one of Atlanta’s top targets this winter. If Adames ends up in Philly, the Braves wouldn’t have many free agent shortstop options (other than a healthy Ha Seong-Kim) that represent an immediate upgrade over Orlando Arcia. Given the growing market for Adames, it seems increasingly likely that the Braves will make a significant contribution by signing an outfielder.
