The breathtaking film final of the 2010s grabbed a blow 11 years later!

Many speechless: The breathtaking last scene of Damien Chazelle’s “Whiplash” with Miles Teller and Oscar winner JK Simmons is a work of great beauty that again deserves a detailed discussion.

Warning, spoiler ahead! The following article contains important points of action and the end of “Whiplash” (2014).

In front of “La La Land”, Damien Chazelle put another masterpiece “Whiplash”, an intensive, raw and relentless dive into the world of jazz – an empire that was preferred to the young filmmaker who once played after Miles as a professional drummer like the protagonist of his film, Andrew.

In this way, “spin -up” can be seen as a kind of disguised biopic, with Chazelles telling her own challenging years at a music conservatory and transforming his personal experiences into a shocking journey for his fictional protagonist.

In fact, the film follows Andrew Neiman (Miles plate), an emerging jazz drummer who studies the prestigious music conservatory and dreams of becoming a legendary drummer. He believes that the best way to achieve this is to join the elite jazz ensemble of the demanding trainers Fletcher (JK Simmons). Fletcher’s methods of driving his ensemble to Excel are mentally and physically abusive. How far can you go on the pursuit of excellence?

Andrew goes to the utmost: insulted, beaten and physically humiliated, he even confronts himself physically with his tyrannical teacher and leaves the conservatory. In the meantime, Fletcher is released. A few months later, the two meet again in a jazz club in which Fletcher Andrew says that he only urged him to exclude his potential, and offered him a last chance to perform on stage at a prestigious festival.

A climatic last scene

“WhiPlash” was published in 2014 and received widespread critical recognition and received six Oscar nominations, including the best picture. In the end it won three Oscars: best editing, best sound mix and the best supporting actor for the masterful JK Simmons.

With his high-stakes sequences, “Whiplash” grabs his audience and never leaves a moment, similar to his protagonist. As a spectator, we are helpless witnesses to the verbal and physical attacks that Andrew endures from his trainer and stop our breath … until the unforgettable last sequence of the film.

And they are the drumming scenes and psychological battles between Andrew and Fletcher who really drive the film

In the very last scene of “Whiplash” Andrew takes the stage to see at the last moment that his former teacher has set him up by assigning a piece that he never practiced. But the young man decides not to be defeated: he carries out the piece with fervor and precision and leads the entire orchestra in front of a stunned Fletcher.

The virtuoso sequence includes the last ten minutes of the film and offers dizzying and powerful assembly when the music unfolds. Music and cinema merge to deliver a breathtaking artistic moment under Damien Chazelle’s direction and to transform the camera into a jazz instrument itself. The professor can only silently recognize the truth in all his anger: his student is a genius. The curtain falls and the show is over.
