The brutal horror film Mike Flanagan loves is now streaming!

Eden Lake

I’d like to throw five minutes of a non-stop barrage of questions at casting director Julie Harkin. She’s clearly doing an excellent job, especially since she helped bring in two stars for director James Watkins when he was working on filming Eden Lake. Since then, both have experienced major breakthroughs. Michael Fassbender later gained fame with hunger and Kelly Reilly with Yellowstone.

Both are something of a household name now, and Harkin honed both before they became stars. Well done, Julie. To be fair, director James Watkins had to approve the casting and he deserves credit for that. But a director relies heavily on his casting director to find quality talent, and Harkin certainly knows how to do just that.

If it’s not obvious, I’m a big fan of Eden Lake. This movie effectively ruined me. And I love that. I wrote about this previously in my Dread Central column. If you’re curious to hear more of my thoughts, you can see what I have to say here.

The setup for The film goes like this:

A British couple takes a trip to a private and remote lakeside quarry for a vacation, only to find themselves targeted by a lurking horde of psychotic teenagers intent on doing the devil’s bidding.

Mike Flanagan is a fan of this film.

As it turns out, I’m not the only die-hard fan of Eden Lake. A certain Mike Flanagan considers himself an equally enthusiastic supporter of the picture. So much so that he gave it a coveted spot on a Letterboxd list of his favorite horror films. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: Mike Flanagan has exceptional taste.

Watkins not only directed the film, but also wrote the screenplay Eden Lake. And if his name sounds familiar, it might be because he recently directed the remake of Don’t speak evil for Blumhouse. Cheers to the indie creators who are taking big steps and going full throttle.

Where can I stream? Eden Lake?

If you haven’t experienced it yet Eden LakeI suggest you take the time. It is currently streaming on Tubi. Get ready before you take it in. This flick is brutal, unflinching and hard to watch. But it’s good. Really good.
