The Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney announces the election

The Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney announced a federal election in a widely expected step in which he met with the general governor Mary Simon on Sunday to apply for the dissolution of parliament.

“I ask the Canadians for a strong, positive mandate to deal with President (Donald) Trump and build a new Canadian economy that works for everyone because I know that we need changes,” said Carney on Sunday about the ongoing trade war with the United States.

The election will take place on April 28th and will present Carney against his main competitor, the leader of the conservative party, Pierre Poilievre.

Carney took on his role as a liberal leader and prime minister, after his predecessor Justin Trudeau announced his resignation in January, a decline and an internal uprising during his cabinet.

Surveys showed for months that the conservatives had a strong lead in the election. Since then, the liberal party has seen sovereignty after a trade war with the United States and Trump’s threat to Canada’s sovereignty.

“We are facing the most important crisis of our life due to the unjustified trading campaigns of President Trump and his threats to our sovereignty,” said Carney on Sunday. “Our answer must be to build a strong economy and a safer Canada.”

He added: “President Trump claims that Canada is not a real country. He wants to break us so that America can own us. We won’t allow that.”

The conservative leader Poilievre, who started his campaign for the Premiership on Sunday with a “Canada First” message, has repeatedly portrayed Carney as a guide who was poorly equipped to deal with Trump.

While a press conference ahead of Carney, in which the survey was announced, Poilievre said: “Today the liberals ask for a fourth term after Justin Trudeau exchanged his business advisor and hand -picked successor Mark Carney.”

When asked how he would deal with his relationship with Trump, Poilievre said that he would insist that “independence and sovereignty of Canada” was recognized and “I will strengthen our country so that we are able to stand on our own two feet and to stand by the Americans, where and if necessary.”

Carney, on the other hand, has accused Poilievre of following Trump’s leadership in the proposal of Canada to reduce his budget for foreign help. On Sunday, the prime minister proposed that Canada’s conservatives reflect the Trump administration in “language” and “intention”.

Carney was sworn in as Canada’s Prime Minister in March and should call the election when he was looking for a mandate. Carney, the former governor of the Bank of Canada and the Bank of England, emphasized his financial background because the future of the Canadian economy looks uncertain.

During his speech in Ottawa, the liberal leader outlined his vision of repositioning the Canadian economy.

He said that after the meeting with the Canadian provincial ministers, a “consensus” was reached on Friday to eliminate commercial barriers within the country and to unite the Canadian economy. He also promised to introduce a medium -class tax reduction, from which he said they would benefit two -tone families.

Canada would continue to diversify his trading partners and reduce his trust in the United States, he said. Carney also emphasized the need to “act dramatically and act quickly to build an economy that is strong for Canada” and “control what we can control”.
