The Chiefs are hoping DJ Humphries can play soon to solve their LT issue

The Chiefs benched second-year left tackle Wanya Morris on Sunday. Morris replaced rookie Kingsley Suamataia in Week 2.

Left guard Joe Thuney had to move to left tackle to replace Morris, with reserve defensive back Mike Caliendo taking Thuney’s place.

“Sometimes Things like snowball on youcoach Andy Reid said of Morris, via John Dixon of Arrowheadpride.com. “I mean, it’s a little bit of everything that turns you on. He started out pretty good and things went downhill from there. This happens with young people. Nobody wants it to happen like that, but sometimes it does and then you freeze in your own feet and don’t know what exactly to do.”

Reid said the team didn’t give up on Suamatia and Morris.

“We have young people who worked there,” Reid said. “You play against good players. The good guys have – probably – got the upper hand over us. But (these are) things these guys will learn from. You can prepare (them) for the future and improve. I think that will help us.”

The Chiefs signed DJ Humphries last week, but he is working his way back from a torn ACL in Week 17 last season. Humphries will play when he’s ready, but the Chiefs aren’t sure yet if that will be this week against the Chargers.

“I don’t think that’s fair to DJ right now, just that he’s had this offseason,” Reid said. “So I guess we’ll just play it by ear. If he’s okay, we’ll give him a chance. If (he) isn’t where (he) needs to be, then (we) aren’t. So we’ll just see how it goes.”

Reid said he would prefer Thuney to be at guard, but that the veteran is an option at left tackle if Humphries isn’t ready.
