The co-founder of the Harvard Exit Theater in Seattle has died at the age of 95

According to one of his children, Arthur Berstein died at the age of 95.

Nils Bernstein announced his father’s death on December 20th on Facebook last week.

His death comes just before the 100th anniversary of the building where Bernstein opened the Harvard Exit Theater. In 1925 it was the Woman’s Centruy Club.

In 1968, the property was sold and converted into the two-screen Harvard Exit Cinema, beloved by the Seattle community for decades. According to Cinema Treasures, Bernstein opened the theater with fellow Boeing engineer Jim O’Steen.

The property was sold again for renovation in 2015 and reopened in 2018.

According to Harvard Exit’s website, the building’s primary tenant today is the Consulate of Mexico.
