The county seat of Bergen warns of drone sightings and refers residents to the FBI

BERGEN COUNTY, NJ – As more New Jersey residents report sightings of drones in the area overnight, local officials are asking people to provide information to the FBI so the situation can be monitored.

A new report said Wednesday that drone traffic recently prevented a medical helicopter from picking up an injured person from an accident scene.

And on Thursday, Patch reported that officials in two North Jersey counties had asked residents to report sightings to the FBI.

Wyckoff police wrote: “It has been brought to our attention that large aerial drones have been observed throughout the township this evening.

“County and local law enforcement are aware of recurring reports of drone activity in several counties and recognize the public’s concern about these repeated sightings. The FBI Newark and NJ State Police urge the public to report any information regarding current sightings of possible drones. Anyone with relevant information is asked to call the FBI at 1-800-CALL-FBI or submit it online at Tips.fbi.gov.

“If anyone finds a drone, contact Wyckoff Police immediately.

“There is currently no known threat to public safety.”

Although officials have not documented a threat, some fear the drones are flying near infrastructure.

“While we currently have no evidence or information to suggest that these drones pose an immediate threat at this time, their presence appears to be nefarious in nature,” Florham Park Police Chief Joseph Orlando was quoted as saying in Patch on Thursday.
