The Cowboys can’t make that mistake again in 2025

The Dallas Cowboys host the Cincinnati Bengals in Game 14 on Monday night, and the good thing for them is that they are good on one side of the ball but not the other.

Even if Dallas somehow wins this football game, that will only put them at 6 and 7, and they still have a hill to climb to even make the playoffs. The only win left on the schedule might be the Carolina Panthers, but they played well!

With that in mind, I expect Dallas to finish with six or seven wins and go 13th, 14th or 15th in April’s NFL Draft.

I was hoping for a top 10 pick, but it looks like that might not happen with the last two wins.

Don’t do it again

By “don’t do it again,” I mean the University of Michigan defensive lineman’s roster, who is projected to end up exactly where the Dallas Cowboys will line up in April 2025.

Dallas is currently ranked No. 13, but will move up a few spots over the next few weeks until the end of the season depending on what they and other teams do.

It started when they selected defensive end Taco Charlton with the 28th overall pick in 2018. He played two seasons with the Cowboys and only had four sacks.

What a piece of crap this guy was. It was one of the worst decisions this front office has made over the years. Let me remind you that they took him over TJ Watt, wow that hurts.

Then two years ago they took Mazi Smith 21st overall, and he was a huge disappointment too.

People are ready to give up on him now as he didn’t perform well in the first two years. You all should already know that he wasn’t there during his rookie season a year ago, he was that bad. I could have done what he did.

This season, in Weeks 10-12, Smith had an overall defensive grade of 55 or higher in all three games, including two above 60.

His run defense grades were all above 60, two of which were above 70.

His overall average grade was 62.9 and his run defense average was 70.5. That 70.5 run mark would put him in the top 15 in the league this year.

So maybe he’s found the pulse, but I’m just asking him to ask Jerry Jones not to make the same mistake and recruit Kenneth Grant out of Michigan.

Fresh face

I’m really not sure what will happen with Mike McCarthy and if he will be in the draft room in April.

I think Jerry will let him sit out this year, but I really hope he doesn’t use the injuries as an excuse to bring him back for another year.

This team needs a fresh face, new ideas, someone young who can give them some pizzazz.

I can’t be the one to tell you who the Dallas Cowboys should pick in the first round, but I think we can all agree that they need to avoid the mistake of signing a defensive player from Michigan who is exactly their pick fits in the middle of the first round.

We saw that it didn’t work, and for some reason I feel like they might do it again.

Nonetheless, we’ll all start talking about draft season before we know it, and my only wish is that they don’t take a player from Michigan with the first-round pick or reach for a player who can’t make an impact on day one .
