The Crewe Alexandra star previews the Wrexham clash after experiencing an “amazing atmosphere” last season

Wrexham are back in action on Tuesday evening when they host second division side Crewe Alexandra in the knockout phase of the EFL Trophy.

Wrexham secured a big win on Saturday afternoon, traveling to Burton Albion and coming home with three points.

Storm Darragh wreaked havoc but Wrexham secured a 1-0 win.

The home form has been sensational with Wrexham collecting 200 home points since his appointment in 2021 under Phil Parkinson.

However, Wrexham weren’t quite as strong away from home, so Saturday’s win – and their fourth win in a row – was a huge boost.

Now it’s back to the EFL Trophy where Wrexham host Crewe Alexandra after progressing through the group stages.

Crewe Alexandra scores against Wrexham

Wrexham defeated Salford City and Wolverhampton Wanderers U21s before a draw at Port Vale to secure their place in the next round.

Parkinson and Co. are now in the round of 16 in the northern section and want to progress against League Two Crewe.

Parkinson will almost certainly rotate his squad and give fringe players a chance to shine.

However, this will still be a strong Wrexham side and Crewe will be looking to spring a surprise.

Crewe midfielder Jack Powell has now commented on the game and looked back on the two sides’ meeting at STōK Cae Ras last season.

Crewe earned a 3-3 draw at Wrexham last season, with Steven Fletcher scoring an injury-time equalizer to salvage a point for ten-man Wrexham.

Powell noted that Crewe played well and were actually better than Wrexham on the day, although Parkinson’s side eventually gained promotion.

Powell felt an “amazing atmosphere” during his last visit to Wrexham and hopes to make a real impression at this latest meeting.

“If you look back at the game we played there last season, it was a great atmosphere, a really good game and I thought we were probably the better team against a team that got through and got promoted.

“I thought we played well there last season. It’s a good game and we all want to be on the pitch – unfortunately we can’t all be on the pitch but when I get the opportunity to play I’m just looking forward to it and hope it works out. I’ll be able to show it “What I can do,” he added.

Three Wrexham players to start against Crewe Alexandra

Parkinson will be reshaping his squad and a number of players are in desperate need of starting spots in this game.

Paul Mullin is a perfect example as the striker is still looking for his best form this season.

Mullin didn’t impress the Wrexham fans on Saturday and needs to find his edge; Facing Crewe could be the ideal opportunity for him.

Dan Scarr is another player who needs the minutes after losing his place in the starting XI in recent weeks.

Eoghan O’Connell has forced his way back into the team and Scarr needs a chance.

Josh Adam is also expected to be there, with the young midfielder still waiting for his first league appearance in a Wrexham shirt.

Wrexham signed Adam in September but he only featured once, in the starting eleven against Port Vale in Wrexham’s final EFL Trophy game.

An opportunity to shine here would be ideal for Adam as Wrexham look for another win in front of the STōK Cae Ras crowd.
