The Devils will host the annual Hockey Fights Cancer evening on Saturday

The Devils will host their annual Hockey Fights Cancer Night presented by RWJBarnabas Health this Saturday when they take on the Washington Capitals at the Prudential Center.

The Devils will offer fans various opportunities throughout the evening to get involved to raise funds for the Oncology Healing Room at the Cancer Center at Clara Maass Medical Center in Newark.

The team will host a mystery puck sale outside of Section 20 in the main concourse before the game. There will be a limited number of player-autographed pucks available, selling for $25.

Hockey Fights cancer-themed jerseys, which can be worn upon player arrival, will be auctioned between November 30th and December 30th. 7. Fans can place their bids here. newjerseydevils.com/auction

Funds raised through this evening’s 50/50 campaign will also benefit the Oncology Healing Room in the Cancer Center at Clara Maass Medical Center.

Some of the heroes in the fight against cancer will also be honored this evening.

The Devils will be Dr. Marissa Botwinick, a pediatric hematologist/oncologist at Rutgers Cancer Institute and Bristol Myers Squibb Children’s Hospital at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, and Dawn Carey, an advanced practice nurse in the pediatric hematology and oncology program at Rutgers Cancer, honor Institute and RWJBarnabas Health as the heroes of the game.

Botwinick is known for providing her patients with advanced treatment options including clinical trials and compassionate, family-centered care, while Carey has been working with physicians since 1996, bringing her extensive knowledge and expertise in pediatric hematology and oncology to patients and families.

The Devils will welcome superfan, 12-year-old Theo Koshenkov, and his family to the game.

Koshenkov, of East Brunswick, was diagnosed with lymphoma earlier this year and is currently receiving treatment at Rutgers Cancer Institute. His game day experiences include a one-day contract signed by general manager Tom Fitzgerald, an official jersey and locker stand signed by the team, and a meeting with his favorite Devils player, Jack Hughes.

Koshenkov will also watch warmups from the penalty box, gain experience in the pregame locker room, participate in a ceremonial puck drop and ride the Zamboni during the second intermission. He and his family will also attend practice early this week, followed by a meet and greet for the entire team.

Additionally, the national anthem will be sung by NYU student Mya Rodriguez, who has overcome stage 2 Hodgkin’s lymphoma.

Dr. Steven Libutti, William N. Hait director of the Rutgers Cancer Institute and senior vice president of oncology services at RWJBarnabas Health, said he was grateful for the evening.

“As the state’s only National Cancer Institute-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center, Rutgers Cancer Institute, along with RWJBarnabas Health, continues to make advances in cancer prevention, research and treatment, and we are grateful for the dedicated support of the NHL and our partner, the New “Jersey Devils, in our shared mission to defeat a disease that affects so many,” he said.

“Hockey Fights Cancer Night is an opportunity to shine a spotlight on the strength and bravery of cancer patients and their families while underscoring the importance of advancing cancer research and treatment.”
