The driver was taken to hospital after crashing into a traffic pole in Irvine, almost splitting the car in half

A man was hospitalized for serious injuries after crashing into a traffic light pole in Orange County early Friday morning, police said.

Irvine police posted a photo on Instagram showing the traffic light pole almost half sticking out of the car.

In the caption, police say the accident occurred at 1:03 a.m. Friday at the intersection of Modjeska and Still Night streets in Irvine.

“We responded quickly to the scene along with our partners at the Orange County Fire Authority (OCFA),” Irvine PD wrote. “They quickly rescued the driver from the vehicle and transported him to the hospital.”

According to police, the driver was seriously injured. “Our thoughts are with him during his recovery,” the Instagram caption adds.

Irvine police did not provide an update on the driver’s status as of Friday evening.

Limited details are available. Police did not identify the driver or provide any further information about the cause of the accident.
