IDAHO FALLS – A local Mexican restaurant has been serving authentic family recipes in eastern Idaho for over 25 years.

Maria Hernandez, the manager of Yessi Puerto Vallarta, says her family has been in the food business for decades, serving homemade Mexican dishes that have been passed down for generations.

“We started with a family friend who used to have restaurants in the Washington area and decided to try our luck and start a family business,” Hernandez says. “It has always been a family restaurant and we have been in the area for over 25 years.”

EastIdahoNews.com was lucky enough to try some of their most popular dishes, starting with Pollo a la Crema.

This dish consists of chicken slices, a cream sauce with mushrooms and onions, a side dish of rice and beans and tortillas.

“It was a very popular menu item,” Hernandez says. “It’s a really good dish.”

Next we tried Hernandez’s favorite item on the menu, the Chile Rellenos.

The Chile Rellenos are stuffed green peppers with cheese, brushed with an egg and topped with white cheese and red sauce. As a side dish there is a chimichanga with sour cream, guacamole, rice and beans.

“I would say this must be a very, very popular food as well,” Hernandez says. “Everyone comes here and says, ‘I’m here because of the Chile Rellenos; I know they’re good.’”

Finally, we tried a personal favorite: street tacos. The available varieties are steak, spicy or marinated pork with or without pineapple, carne asada, grilled chicken or chorizo.

“We cook the meat every time someone orders a taco,” Hernandez says. “They come with cilantro and onions and some lime slices. The pineapple pork and carne asada are very popular. Our chorizo is also homemade and therefore very popular.”

Everything we tried was absolutely delicious, so we highly recommend you try Yessi Puerto Vallarta next time you go out to eat!
