Turner Classic Movies has an entertaining premise for every Sunday night in December 2024: “Sundays With Carol Burnett” will combine a classic film with a parody of it, based on Burnett’s famous 1967-78 sketch comedy series. The Carol Burnett Show.

The sketches, some of which remain famous and hilarious, were headlined by the series’ brilliant regular cast including Burnett, Harvey Korman, Vicki Lawrence and Tim Conway, with notable guest stars also dropping in to play characters.

Here are the films and related skits that were shown during TCM’s “Sundays With Carol Burnett.”

Special Feature: Sundays with Carol Burnett – TCM in December 2024 (All Times Eastern)

Sun. December 1, 2024, 8 p.m

“Sundays With Carol Burnett” begins with one of the most iconic films in Hollywood history, the 1939s Gone with the wind (who turns 85 on December 15th!), paired with one of The Carol Burnett ShowThe most legendary sketches: “Went With the Wind!”

The sketch originally aired on November 13, 1976, during the show’s 10th season and stars Burnett as “Starlett O’Hara” (in that famous rod curtain dress) and Korman (doing a pretty good Clark Gable impersonation). “Captain Ratt Butler” as well as Lawrence and others, with the cast barely able to keep their faces straight and not burst out laughing as they were skewered GWTW.

“Sundays With Carol Burnett” this evening is a double feature:

8 p.m.: The evening begins with Born to be evil (1950), a film noir melodrama directed by Joan Fontaine, Robert Ryan, Zachary Scott and Joan Leslie. It was parodied on the December 15, 1973 episode of The Carol Burnett Show as “Raised to Be Rotten”, part of a “Salute to Bad Girls” sketch that also contained parodies All about Eve (1950) and The graduate (1967). In Raised to Be Rotten, Burnett played “Christinabel” (in which he took over Fontaine’s role of Christabel). Korman also appeared in the sketch alongside guest stars Ruth Buzzi and Richard Crenna.

10 p.m.: The second track in today’s double feature is Torch song (1953), a musical drama directed by Joan Crawford, Michael Wilding, Gig Young and Best Supporting Actress Oscar nominee Marjorie Rambeau. The film was faked The Carol Burnett Show‘s “Torchy Song” sketch during the January 22, 1977 episode.

8 p.m.: The first part of today’s double feature is Sundays With Carol Burnett The heiress (1949), William Wyler’s Best Picture-nominated romantic drama with an Oscar nomination for Best Director, starring Olivia de Havilland, winner of Best Actress, Montgomery Clift and Ralph Richardson, nominated for Best Supporting Actor. The Carol Burnett Show parodied this film on its March 15, 1975 episode as “The Lady Heir” with Burnett and guest star Roddy McDowall in the roles of de Havilland and Clift.

10:30 p.m.: The second on tonight’s double bill is A stolen life (1946), a drama directed by Bette Davis and Glenn Ford. On the January 24, 1976 episode of The Carol Burnett Show, it was parodied in the sketch “A Swiped Life”.

TCM’s final Sunday night, combining a classic film with a comedic take on the feature film performed in a skit The Carol Burnett Show offers another double feature:

8 p.m.: The evening begins with the Oscar-nominated film noir melodrama/film noir Mildred Pierce (1945) led by Best Actress winner Joan Crawford and Best Supporting Actress nominees Eve Arden and Ann Blyth. The film was parodied in the November 20, 1976 episode The Carol Burnett Show as “Mildred Fierce,” with Burnett as the title character and Vicki Lawrence as her daughter.

You can see part of the skit that precedes this video, followed by part of the “Torchy Song” sketch.

10:30 p.m.: The second part of this double bill is the 1944 film noir, which was nominated for Best Film Double compensationstarring Best Actress nominee Barbara Stanwyck and Fred MacMurray. The series spoofed this film as “Double Calamity” in the November 3, 1973 episode, with Burnett stepping into Stanwyck’s shoes as the femme fatale and guest star Steve Lawrence taking on the role of MacMurray.
