The Flyers’ Konecny and Sanheim are on Canada’s 4-nation squad

It certainly looks like at least a few players will be representing the Philadelphia Flyers in the NHL’s 4 Nations Face-Off tournament next year. And of course these are two of the players who have really taken their game to new levels this season.

On Tuesday night’s edition of TSN Insider tradingChris Johnston revealed the truth and reported who will make up the majority of Canada’s squad at the upcoming tournament. Among the long list of names were two Flyers: winger Travis Konecny and defenseman Travis Sanheim.

For Konecny it is the first time in a long time that he has been able to represent his country at a tournament. The London, Ontario. The native native last wore the red and white at the 2017 World Cup – where he recorded eight assists in ten games – straight after his rookie season. So it’s been quite a while since Konecny was on the international stage and scored a whole lot of NHL points.

As for Sanheim, he was already able to play for Team Canada at the 2022 World Cup, where he scored four points in 10 games. But both Sanheim and Konecny have enough junior hockey experience playing for Canada – the two each appeared once at the U17 Championship, the U18 Championship and the World Junior Championships – to have their names in the mix to have the collective head of Hockey Canada.

Both players definitely deserve this place. At the start of this season, it felt unlikely that Sanheim And Konecny would be among Team Canada’s 23 players at this midseason tournament, but they stepped up in a way that couldn’t be ignored. Konecny continued his scoring streak from last season and has already scored 13 goals and 30 points in just 25 games. And Sanheim was the star on the Flyers’ blue line; Averaged over 25 minutes per game, scoring 15 points in 25 games and becoming one of the NHL’s top workhorses this season.

The other players reported to be joining Canada’s roster alongside Konecny and Sanheim are the players you’d expect. Connor McDavid, Sidney Crosby and Nathan MacKinnon lead a group of some of the best strikers in the world, including: Brad Marchand, Brayden Point, Anthony Cirelli, Mark Stone and Mitch Marner at the top; and defensemen like the Avalanche pair of Devon Toews and Cale Makar, supported by Josh Morrissey, Shea Theodore and a surprising selection in Colton Parayko.

Canada may be the tournament favorite, but it all depends on the goalkeeper. Adin Hill and Logan Thompson could be the final tandem, and both players are certainly not considered the best goalkeepers in the world. This is just a little wonky.

While we’ll be paying more attention to the United States, it might also be fun to watch some Flyers win some games while representing their country.
