A former state was charged with fees in which she stole more than 100,000 US dollars of public funds.

The Attorney General of Alabama, Steve Marshall, said on Thursday, 59-year-old Natalie Colette Lewis from Montgomery was charged with several crimes, including severe theft of property, the use of the office for personal profit and a violation of the law of Alabama Computer Crimes.

Lewis used to work at Alabama Medicaid Agency.

It resulted in the Montgomery County prison shortly before 12:30 p.m. and was released with a bond of $ 30,000.

Details about the alleged theft have not yet been published.

Marshall said that the Medicaid fraud control department of the General Prosecutor has initiated an investigation after the theft was discovered and reported by Alabama Medicaid Agency.

“Public trust is the basis of the state service, and if a state employee abuses this trust for personal profit, it is a direct attack on Alabama’s taxpayers,” said Marshall in a press release.

“My office is obliged to choose fraud and keep those who blame the public. This case serves as a strong memory that nobody is above the law.”

The severe theft of property is a crime that can be punished at up to 30 years in prison and a fine of up to $ 60,000.

The use of the office for personal profit is a crime of class B, which is punished with two to 20 years in prison and a fine of up to $ 30,000.

The violation of the law on computer crimes in Alabama is a crime of class C, which is punished with a prison sentence to 10 years in prison and a fine of up to $ 15,000.

The case is pursued by the deputy Attorney General Bruce Lieberman, director of the Medicaid fraud control unit.
