The former Razorback’s long snapper is entering the transfer portal

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – After leaving Arkansas a week before the season opener, Eli Stein has apparently decided not to give up playing. But that won’t be the case with the Razorbacks.

Stein, a high school All-American from Cambridge, Wisconsin, was the Hogs’ long snapper in 2022-23 before losing his job to Ashton Ngo in fall practice. He was one of the few returning players who started training in August.

“When (Max Fletcher) left, it was a strange realization that I was the last person left in the room I came in as a freshman,” Stein said Aug. 2 about being the only returnee in the The kickers’ room was also part of the snappers. “But that’s exactly what it was. A lot of younger people to guide them through the process and help them, so I would like to do that as often as I can.”

Stein apparently wasn’t interested in sitting on the bench when the first depth chart came out, and he was listed as an “or” next to Ngo. Stein left the Razorbacks shortly before the opener against UAPB in Little Rock.

“Ashton Ngo was our starting punt snapper anyway,” Arkansas coach Sam Pittman said shortly before the opening game. “It was a very close battle at short snap, so he was going to be that no matter what happened, and he’ll certainly take the short snap as well.”

• Razorback WR’s phenomenal play gave the team a chance at the end

• The Hogs’ offensive coordinator is linked to the head coaching vacancy

• Will the Hogs care enough about ball security to win next season?

• Nothing new as the Razorbacks have plenty of blame to go around

• Pork Bowl Target? Memphis (again) or Houston are good bets, but it won’t be Mobile
