The former Trail Blazers star Damian Lillard announces a naming scholarship in Portland State

The all-star from NBA, Damian Lillard, may no longer play for the Portland Trail Blazer, but he still likes his legacy in the city of roses.

Lillard works with Portland State University to start the Damian Lillard Scholar’s program. The program offers up to 10 students a scholarship of 25,000 US dollars per year of selected high school in the California East Bay Area.

Lillard grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area and visited the Oakland High School.

“Students from my community in East Bay now have the opportunity to pursue a college training in my adoptive community of Portland without financial burdens,” said Lillard in a press release. “I hope that this scholarship will become a springboard for a bright and promising future.”

Ann Cudd, President of Portland State, said the university was enthusiastic about expanding her reach to Lillard’s hometown.

“We could not be proud to offer this scholarship East Bay student while we combine weapons with one of the most exciting and inspiring bourgeois leaders in Portland,” said Cudd. “Damian Lillard has found so much love in the city of Portland that PSU counts him as one of our own.”

The so-called Damian Lillard scholars also receive funds to pay costs for the tuition fees. This includes money for living, food, transport and textbooks.

The full cost of participating in Portland State as a student outside the state is approximately $ 46,000.

The Merit-based scholarship program will start a promise of $ 100,000 from Lillard to PSU next year. According to PSU, a non -specified donor corresponds to this amount.

So far, 15 students who are suitable for the program have been approved in Portland State. A PSU spokesman said the university was obliged to award a total of 10 scholarships. However, if all 15 potential students register at PSU, everyone will receive the scholarship.

Other East Bay students can still apply. You have to do this before the PSU application is made on August 1, 2025.

Lillard’s scholarship program in Portland State will be financed for the next four academic years.
