The free satellite messaging service from Verizon is now available

The previously announced satellite messaging service from Verizon is now available to the owners of some Android smartphones, the company said in a statement today. However, no additional fee is charged for Verizon customers, although you need a Google Pixel 9 or Samsung Galaxy S25 series phone to use it. With the service, people can send and receive text messages via satellites if they are outside the mobile phone area. The recipients can be on any network or device.

SMS via satellites is currently the last cry. Apple recently added iPhones with iOS 18 non-emergency messages of satellites. This service is free for the time being, but T-Mobile will request a monthly fee if it lives fully this summer. Both AT&T and Verizon have worked on additional connectivity with AST Spacemobile to make video calls and send multimedia via satellites. If everything goes out, the dead zones could be much less dead in the near future.

Verizon carries out the necessary upgrades so that the service will continue from today and “continues in the next two weeks”, as today’s publication shows. The race has probably turned to a space race to 5G today.
