The Fremont couple’s car was stolen just days before the baby was born

FREMONT, Calif. (KRON) – A young family in Fremont was shocked when their car was stolen on Thanksgiving, just days before they were expecting their first child, a baby girl.

Benny Willis, 21, and Arcelia Virro, 22, had parked their car outside Arcelia’s home around 8 p.m. when it was taken. Inside the car was a stroller, a car seat, baby clothes and toys – all items they had saved for their newborn.

“It was heartbreaking because we had just had the baby shower. “We had things for her at the hospital and it’s all just gone,” Arcelia said.

There were also photos of her baby’s ultrasound, strollers and a car seat in the car. Benny’s tool bag and wallet were also in the car.

KRON4 interviewed Benny and Arcelia just two hours before Arcelia was scheduled to be admitted to an East Bay hospital. For Arcelia, who has lived in Fremont for years, a car theft was a big shock. “I just got super emotional because Thanksgiving was ruined. But all the baby stuff was in the car. “People should have a heart, especially when they see a car seat,” Arcelia said.

Benny works in the construction industry and explained how important the car is for getting to work and appointments. “I don’t have much. The work went slowly. Before this happened, I was already struggling,” he said.

The couple filed a report with the Fremont Police Department (FPD), but said the theft caused them unnecessary stress as they prepared for the birth of their baby. According to Fremont police, more than forty carjackings have been reported in the area this month.

KRON4 has reached out to FPD for more information but has not yet received a response.

A GoFundMe has been set up to help the family.
