The history of the PlayStation could have been very different, as Sony refused to put its name on the console

30 years is a long way. Sony has been a major player in the video game industry for three decades. What started with a console that got in the way in the middle of the war Nintendo And SEGA has become one of the main competitors in the industry. PlayStation and the fear of failure in the middle of the war between Nintendo and SEGA

“I remember an early presentation where they brought a PlayStation prototype to the president’s office to see what they were building,” Layden begins in an interview with Eurogamer. “I remember standing in a boardroom in mid-1994, before its release, playing Ridge Racer and thinking, ‘Oh my God, this is going to be great.’ But at Sony I think a lot of the management at the time didn’t take it seriously. They thought, ‘Oh God, Sega and Nintendo control this (the video game industry).’ Do you think Sony is going to split the whole thing into three parts?’ It was a stupid task. I think some people even called it that back then. But (then Sony President Norio) Ohga-san was a believer. A lot of people thought we were taking a risk. It was difficult to have the Sony name on this device; They didn’t want to be associated with it.”

Eventually, as could not have been otherwise, the plan flourished to the point where it became an inseparable element of the PlayStation brand. The games division developed into the financial lung of the Japanese. With its best and worst moments, PS is where it is thanks to a powerful catalog and hardware dedicated to video games as its mainstay.
