The injury update gives the Sacramento Kings something to look forward to

When you’re 14th-19th, 12th in your conference and you just fired your head coach (who you just renewed), it’s hard to find things to be happy about.

Such is life for the Sacramento Kings, who faced arguably the worst doomsday scenario of any NBA team in 2024-25.

Unless there is a massive turnaround, it will be hard for the team’s fans to generate excitement around the Kings team from night to night. Luckily, the Kings have a player coming back from injury and everyone associated with the team will be excited to see him.

Devin Carter’s debut is coming soon

No matter where your interest lies, everyone loves watching young players. This is because they are new and have a seemingly limitless career span.

The Kings are primarily a veteran team. So they don’t have too many young players (another reason why the mood in the team is so gloomy). But the team does have its 2024 first-round pick, Devin Carter — a player many draft analysts consider a steal even though the Kings selected him (13th overall).

Unfortunately, the Kings have yet to experience their rookie combo guard as Carter missed the entire season recovering from an offseason shoulder injury. But it looks like the wait to see what the team’s future will hold may soon be over.

On Wednesday, the Kings announced they were calling Carter up to the major leagues from the Stockton Kings.

Carter was with the Stockton Kings to help him improve his conditioning to get back into playing shape. Believe it or not, you need to be able to run for extended periods of time when playing professional basketball.

Either way, Carter’s return to the NBA team means he’s almost ready to make his debut. We already know it won’t be against the Philadelphia 76ers tonight (January 1, 2025). But it could literally be any game after that (which means we could see him on Friday against the Memphis Grizzlies).

Given his youth and the stalemate the Kings are dealing with, it’s highly unlikely that Carter will have much of an impact on this team in 2025. Still, it will be really cool to see an exciting young player in this squad.
