“The Jaguars make a major roster move before battling the Texans.”

The Jacksonville Jaguars are expanding their game-day receiver room due to Gabe Davis’ season-ending injury.

The Jaguars officially designated second-year receiver Elijah Cooks from the practice squad on Saturday and added him to the roster for their return game against the Houston Texans on Sunday.

Cooks signed with Jacksonville as an undrafted free agent in 2023. He played in nine games for the Jaguars last season and recorded three receptions for 38 yards.

Cooks was also called up in Week 9, although he may see more action this week following Davis’ season-ending injury.

“Yeah, Parker (Washington) is obviously taking a big step forward. “It’s a big role for him,” Jaguars Ehad coach Doug Pederson said this week. “(WR) Devin Duvernay has expanded his role, but we have Elijah Cooks, Joshua Cephus and Austin Trammel who have been promoted a few times. “Any of these guys can step up. Tim Jones can obviously expand his role offensively a bit. But Parker is really the guy to take on this role.”

The Jaguars were already missing starting receiver Christian Kirk due to his season-ending collarbone injury. Now the Jaguars are down two of their three starters and are looking for players like Cooks to pick up the slack.

“Once again, just because Gabe was in that position, someone is going to have a role that they probably haven’t had in the last few weeks,” Jaguars offensive coordinator Press Taylor said this week.

“And then every game you look at who is giving us what we need to accomplish that game. There are times when there may be more than 12 people. What will the defense do now? bring it out there? What is the situation? They’re going to play a certain defense and how do we respond to put ourselves in the best possible position in this game.”
