The Jaguars practice roster moves, adding QB John Wolford

The Jaguars conducted six practices Tuesday, signing quarterback John Wolford, punter Matt Haack and long snapper Tucker Addington and releasing offensive lineman Jerome Carvin, defensive end Joe Gaziano and cornerback Tyler Hall from the unit.

Wolford, who played at Bishop Kenny High School in Jacksonville from 2010 to 2014, once held the Florida state high school passing records for yards (10,621) and touchdowns (126). He then threw for 8,794 yards with 59 touchdowns and 41 interceptions in four seasons at Wake Forest.

An undrafted free agent in 2018, Wolford originally signed with the New York Jets but was released before the start of the regular season.

Wolford was drafted by the Arizona Hotshots of the Alliance of American Football in November and threw for 1,617 yards, 14 touchdowns and seven interceptions in eight games in the AAF’s only season.

After the AAF ceased operations in April 2019, Wolford returned to the NFL and signed with the Los Angeles Rams, where he backed up quarterbacks Jared Goff and Matthew Stafford for four seasons. He completed 61 of 104 passes for 626 yards with one touchdown and five interceptions in seven games and four starts.

Wolford signed with Tampa Bay’s practice squad before the 2023 season and joined the Buccaneers’ active roster last November. He re-signed with the Buccaneers that offseason but was released in August.

Haack joins the Jaguars as backup for starter Logan Cooke, who was dealing with left knee soreness following Jacksonville’s 23-20 loss to the Houston Texans on Sunday, according to head coach Doug Pederson.

Haack has completed 453 punts for an average of 44.7 yards in four seasons with the Miami Dolphins and one season with the Buffalo Bills, Indianapolis Colts, Cleveland Browns and New York Giants in his eight-year NFL career. He has pinned 169 punts inside the 20-yard line and recorded 26 touchbacks.

The Giants released Haack on November 5 after he played four games for New York, making 21 punts.

Addington returns to Jacksonville after briefly playing for the Jaguars during the 2023 preseason. Since entering the NFL in 2022, he has also spent time with the Dallas Cowboys, New England Patriots, Washington Commanders and Miami Dolphins. He appeared in 10 games and recorded one tackle.
