Residents of Baita, a village that covers Gezawa community in Kano State, northwestern Nigeria, are calling on authorities to build health facilities for these people.

There is not a single shop and only one bed for this village. You are in a hospital, let’s say, in a health facility that is not pampered.

According to residents, five doctors take care of patients who then go to the hospital.

According to villagers, they built an abandoned health facility in 1991 and did not maintain it.

Villagers say the clinic treats more than 10,000 patients every month, and residents come from about 10 villages around Baita.

Due to the fact that the clinic is bad and the cracks we have in the walls are no longer usable, I’m back.

Over the last nine years they have moved from one store to another. Two years ago they managed to get a store and more space.

Now they use one room for the doctor to see patients and in the second room we only have a bed but for patients we want to admit.

Even with this arrangement, the villagers were not happy as the doctors were not well suited to their condition.

Poor health care in the region does not result in the deaths of many children, especially women who have not yet given birth.

Some of the women die while trying to go to the hospital in Minjibir or Gezawa.

A woman from the village, Zainab Abdullahi, told BBC News Pidgin that she was not happy carrying her gun into the shop they use as a hospital.

She even claimed that she did not lose two of her daughters during childbirth because they would bleed to death after birth.

“I have been bringing my Pikins to one place for more than two years and it hurts me to see a store we use as a hospital because even the doctors are not comfortable with the store because it is too small,” Zainab said

She added: “I lost both of my daughters in labor. A few weeks ago, a daughter happened to me when she started bleeding incessantly after birth. She could die on the way to be taken to the big hospital in Gezawa.”

Zainab adds, “My daughter has been dying for a long time and is suffering from similar bleeding problems even after birth.”

“If I want to say a good health facility for Baita, my two daughters will stay alive. So I call on them to fix our healthcare facility,” she said.

Also, a family man from the village, Rabi’u Abdulmuminu, said that because of the poor health care in Baita, I am losing my wife and my wife too much.

“For me, many people have lost their dear relatives, but my turn also came a few months ago because I lost my beloved wife and baby.”

Abdulmimunu added: “The incident happened at night when my wife was about to give birth but she suffered a lot because there was no hospital in our village.”

“When we reach the big hospital where we chose Gezawa, she is already losing her energy, the baby may die for her beauty even after she is born,” I said

I add, “Later she will die too, and I know that if I say we go to the hospital properly, my wife and baby will still be alive.”

Baita Village District Head Alkasim Isiyaku said he decided to escape the hospital after seeing the walls of the hospital collapse because the walls had started to crack.

Di district leaders say they haven’t sent letters to Goment for many years but have never received a response.

“We have been writing to Goment to repair our clinical facility for almost seven years, but they do not respond.”

The district manager added that they were very grateful to the woman for deciding to give her business as a substitute for a medical facility.

Hajiya Zuwaira Baita says she decided to quit her business for the sake of the women and children because they would not seek medical attention for the community and Oda villages.

“I see women and children unable to see a doctor again when our health facility stops working.”

Kano State Commissioner for Health, Abubakar Labaran Yusuf, told BBC News that Pidgin said I was not aware of the situation for Baita, let’s say I have not received any official request from him. “I haven’t received any official news from them yet, but now I realize that I will send Pipo so that they see what the situation is,” they said.

“Then I will check whether they are in the communities and whether they have commissioned the project, and if not, I will deploy them for the next phase, which we will carry out in the first months of the new year,” Labaran adding that they will maintain more than 2,000 health facilities for Kano for now.

So far, 11 of the many health facilities in Kano Don Dey villages have been selected for renovation.
