The Kindle Black Friday deals knock off the price of the 2024 Paperwhite

Amazon launched the Kindle Paperwhite 2024 just last month, but it’s already discounted for Black Friday. The new e-reader — which offers faster page turns, a bigger and better screen, and longer battery life — is discounted to $130 ($30 off). This is the first discount on one of our picks for the best e-reader since launch.

The sixth-generation Paperwhite features a 7-inch screen, which is significantly larger than its predecessor’s 6.8-inch screen. Thanks to the oxide thin film transistor display technology, Amazon also increased the contrast of the display, which should help reduce eye strain. There is still a warm light that you can adjust to suit your room’s lighting. The front light of the new model is 25 percent brighter at maximum level than the 5th generation model. It’s one of our picks for the best e-reader.

The new Paperwhite turns pages 25 percent faster than its predecessors, which makes a noticeable difference in the reading experience, according to Engadget’s Amy Skorheim. (The review was for the more expensive Signature Edition, which however has identical page covers.) At 7.8mm thick, this is the thinnest Paperwhite yet.

The e-reader still has IPX8 water resistance and the device features a new rubberized texture that makes it easier to grip. Amazon estimates the battery to last up to 12 weeks per charge. It comes with a USB-C cable (but no power adapter).

You can also save on the new standard Kindle on sale for $85 (down from $110). Although this model does without warm light and has a smaller screen, you get a lighter and more compact e-reader at a reasonable price.
