The Last of Us Part 2 star announces a larger role in HBO’s second season

Isaac Dixon, one of the main antagonists in The Last of Us Part 2, could play an even bigger role in HBO’s live-action adaptation. The actor himself, Jeffrey Wright, announces an extended appearance in season 2.

While the first season of The Last of Us was a critical darling and an unprecedented smash hit for HBO, the story has only just begun. Part 2 is a much larger chapter in the larger narrative, so the second season of the series has a lot more to offer.

An important part of this story is the conflict between the Wolves (Washington Liberation Front) and the Scars (Seraphites). We know for sure that this part of the story will actually come to life in live action thanks to season two’s cast details, and it turns out that the leader of the Wolves may even have a bigger role on TV than in the game.

Hollywood star Jeffrey Wright took on the role of Isaac Dixon in the 2020 sequel. Now he’s following in the footsteps of Merle Dandridge, who played Marlene in both the game and the series, by reprising the role for HBO. This time, however, the character could be seen on screen for significantly longer, as Wright has hinted at the possibility of an expanded backstory.

Isaac Dixon is a central character in the back half of The Last of Us Part 2.

Is Isaac Dixon more of a focus in The Last of Us Season 2?

Because Isaac Dixon’s appearances in The Last of Us Part 2 were relatively brief, much of the character’s story was told through notes and collectibles scattered throughout Seattle. That’s likely to change in the live-action adaptation, however, as Wright announces that more of the character’s backstory will be visualized for the first time.

“It’s kind of an introduction to the character,” he teased in an interview with TVLine.

“People have been asking… are we going to get a little backstory on Isaac? We could…” he said shyly. “Maybe it’s not nice.

There is no exact date yet, but we know that we can expect the second season of “The Last of Us” in early 2025. Since filming wrapped back in September, Wright knows exactly what to expect for fans, and it’s obvious that he’s more likely to take a look back at the character’s past.

“I really expressed myself in the game because my son was a fan. It actually only took a few days of work, but the hugely popular game has now become a hugely popular TV show. It wasn’t until I showed up on set that I realized how many people were interested in this thing.”

Wright discusses The Last of Us season 2 at the 8:06 mark below.

As far as we know, Dixon was once part of the US Marine Corps. With his military background, he took an aggressive approach at the start of the outbreak, pushing back against the oppressive FEDRA. Because of his violent actions, he was once considered the most sought-after terrorist in Seattle.

As the years passed and he took control of the Wolves, Dixon was largely responsible for relocating Seattle’s remaining survivors to the stadium we later saw in Part 2. Those who opposed the move were exiled or executed without hesitation.

A cold but calculated leader, he rewards loyalty and seems to genuinely want the best for the people at his side, even if things don’t always go his way. Tensions reach boiling point when we meet him in the game, but there’s no telling when we’ll first see his character in the story in the HBO series.

For now, we’ll just have to wait and see what exactly Season 2 has to offer, although, similar to some key characters in the first game, we can clearly expect a bit more depth here in the live-action show.
